F. and I are staying at a very lovely “chambre d’hote” at Lac de Malaguet. The room is lovely and looks out over a lake surrounded by woods and some cow pastures. The propreitress is a wonderful cook and we are enjoying dinner and breakfast in traditional French fasion. We have explored the countryside on foot and on bikes. The weather has been great; we even enjoyed the lightening storm yesterday. Today we have warm sunny weather again for our explorations of the medieval city of Le Puy en Velay.
Cucumber sandwiches, Heinz baked beans, digestives, sushi, and Dutch beer. I must be in London. I took the Eurostar train from Paris yesterday and met up with Forrest. We enjoyed a nice sunny day with a picnic in Hyde park. We had dinner last night with my cousin who has been living in London for 2 years. It was good to see her.
We will be tourists today and go to museums. This evening we will be meeting up with a Swiss friend who lives in London. Tomorrow we head to France for the rest of the week.
Saturday I go to Paris. Sunday I go to London to meet mon copin, and then we come back to France on Tuesday. I fly home from Paris on the Tuesday after Memorial Day.
I go to DC on June 5th for Peace Corps training. I should be completely adjusted to US time when I fly back across the Atlantic through Paris to Togo on the 9th. I need to plant a lot of trees to make up for my carbon expenditures this year.
I will have 6 weeks of training in Togo, staying with a host family about 100 miles north of Lomé. I will find out where my real site for 2 years will be during this time. On July 21st I’ll visit my site for a week. I will return to my host family for training and will not actually depart for my post until August 27th. So sorry, no visitors allowed until late 2007!
